This map is a tragedy.
So many in need aren't able to get the mental health treatment they should because insurers aren't following the law.
The 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act requires insurance companies to treat coverage for mental health conditions, including substance abuse disorder, equal to coverage for all other medical conditions.
Even though it's required by law, we see a vast difference between what insurance companies actually cover for mental health vs what they should cover.
We've got a long way to go.
